Grace Cosgrove is a multi-talented singer, filmmaker and video editor, whose experience in the many and varied aspects of show business, have given her a wide range of experience as both a performer and an artist.

Grace grew up in Larchmont, NY with a song in her heart. As a young child, she realized how badly she wanted to sing and more than one neighbor, probably heard Grace’s rendition of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” or Joni Mitchell’s “All I Want.” Growing up, Grace was always attracted to the art of storytelling, and it is this gift that has served her well, whether it be in her performing career as a singer or as an award winning editor/producer for television.

After moving to Los Angeles to attend UCLA, Grace continued her singing career, in venues as diverse as background and jingle singer, as well as singing in front of live audiences. Her passion for storytelling never left her, however, and in taking a leave of absence from performing to raise a son, Grace’s life took a new direction. She learned the highly technical art of sound and picture editing and producing aries for television. She was rewarded for her craft by receiving an Emmy and the coveted Edward R. Murrow Award for journalism.

Grace has passion for people. One of Grace’s favorite projects as a filmmaker took her to the streets of Flushing, Queens, where she encouraged immigrants from various oppressed nations to sing their national anthems on public streets. She has always been someone who concentrates on the big picture and pushes up her sleeves. Quite simply, Grace gets things done.

Realizing that singing was her great love, she returned to producing and performing with “Grace Notes,” a show that was dedicated to mentoring and celebrating great singers. In the process, the show raised money for worthy causes in which she believes, such as City Harvest, an organization that feeds the hungry. In addition, she produced and performed many of her solo shows – “Wishin’ and Hopin’,” a tribute to Burt Bacharach and Hal David, “With Grace,” a collaboration with legendary jazz singer, Marilyn Maye, “Colors” and “To Laura With Love,” both dedicated to the music of Laura Nyro and her latest work in progress “American Roots,” a journey home through music. Critic Bob Harrington hailed her work as “performance art,” and she received a prestigious Backstage Bistro Award. Other accolades described Grace as “absolutely mesmerizing,” “a unique presence,” “a gentle and sensitive spirit” who’s “challenging, intelligent, and enormously entertaining.”

As a teenager, Grace became mesmerized by the music of Laura Nyro, the pop icon singer/songwriter of the sixties and seventies. Like Laura, Grace has explored many genres of popular music from folk and pop to jazz and swing. Her enthusiasm for Nyro’s work remains with her today, and Grace is about to release a new CD entitled, “To Laura With Love – Grace Cosgrove Sings Laura Nyro,” this October, 2012, on her very own label, Chantooz Music.

Grace’s affinity toward the music of Laura Nyro is probably due to the fact that they are both natural born storytellers. And like Nyro herself, a socially aware and active proponent for societal change, Grace has immersed herself in causes and organizations that promote a healthy environment as well as the safety and quality of the food and water supplies that we consume. She has a great passion for healthy food and cooking, because she believes that sharing a nutritious and delicious meal expresses love and appreciation for the people for whom we care. Grace would like to think that Laura would approve.
