William"Red"Garland（1923年5月13日-1984年4月23日）是美國現(xiàn)代爵士樂鋼琴家。他以作為樂隊(duì)隊(duì)長而出名，在20世紀(jì)50年代和Miles Davis一起捧紅了Block Chord風(fēng)格的鋼琴演奏。

早年生活：

1923年，Red Garland生于美國德克薩斯州達(dá)拉斯。他的母親會彈奏好幾種樂器。他開始的時候是學(xué)習(xí)單簧管和中音薩克斯管，在1940年他開始學(xué)習(xí)鋼琴。Garland花費(fèi)了大量的時間去練習(xí)并且迅速成為了一名嫻熟的鋼琴家。短暫的次中量級拳擊手的職業(yè)生涯并沒有傷害到他彈奏鋼琴的雙手。在他成為全職的音樂家之前，他曾和年輕的Sugar Ray Robinson打過比賽。

1946年-1954年：

1958年，Garland組建了他自己的三重奏。三重奏的錄制是和藝術(shù)家Pepper Adams、Nat Adderley(Cannonball Adderley的兄弟)、Ray Barretto、Kenny Burrell、Eddie"Lockjaw"Davis、Jimmy Heath、Harold Land、Philly Joe Jones、Blue Mitchell、Ira Sullivan和Leroy Vinnegar一起完成的。該三重奏也和John Coltrane和Donald Byrd一起錄制成了五重奏。

Garland在Prestige Records領(lǐng)銜了19次錄制，在Fantasy Records領(lǐng)銜了25次錄制。20世紀(jì)60年代，有一段時間他停止了專業(yè)演奏的工作。那段時間剛好是搖滾樂開始流行，爵士樂的流行度下滑的時間。
