After the Bangles disbanded in 1989, vocalist/guitarist Susanna Hoffs began her own solo career. Two years after the bands demise, she released When Youre A Boy, which featured songs written by Cyndi Lauper, Juliana Hatfield and Diane Warren. As the wide array of songwriters suggest, the album was a little unfocused — alternating between jangling guitar-pop and synth-laden mainstream pop — but it did generate the Top 40 hit, My Side of the Bed.
Following the release of When Youre A Boy, Hoffs took several years off to concentrate on domestic life. She returned to recording in 1996 with Susanna Hoffs, her first release for London Records. While the album failed to launch a hit single, it received stronger reviews than her debut.
