by Jason AnkenyBrooklyn instrumental math-rock trio Turing Machine (so named in honor of the hypothetical machine designed in 1936 by British mathematician Alan Turing which is the foundation of modern theories of computation and computability) reunited guitarist Justin Chearno and bassist Scott DeSimon, who previously teamed in DC noise combo Pitchblende. After Pitchblende disbanded in the wake of 1995's Gygax!, Chearno and DeSimon relocated to New York City, teaming with ex-Vineland drummer Gerard Fuchs to form Turing Machine; channeling influences as vast as vintage prog, Krautrock and post-punk, the trio issued their debut album A New Machine for Living in early 2000.
